This article discusses the film "Sweet Movie," directed by Dusan Makavejev in 1974. "Sweet Movie" is a film explicitly focused on the deadly games of sexual politics, hilariously and outrageously played out against the corruption and decline of Western capitalism and post-Revolutionary communism. Sex is co-opted in both repressive societies, to be used in exchange for survival and power; yet it is not clear whether the two cultures and their sexually opportunistic protagonists deserve to survive. |
