The article cites a study which studied the emotional responses of hospitalized children. A serious concern for the total care of the hospitalized child requires that more thought be given to the constructive role the hospital can play in a child's emotional growth. This is critical since so few children completely escape a hospital experience at title time or another. The data in the study indicate that the single most distressing event in the hospital is the diagnostic venipuncture. Hence, microchemistry techniques using finger-stick blood would seem to be of high priority in hospitals which care for children. |
