This article focuses on information related to developments in the field of anthropology. Most anthropologists would agree that symbolic behavior is one central defining feature of culture. Researcher Christopher Henshilwood present evidence that shows that humans used shell beads-artifacts that indicate symbolic rather than practical or instinctual behavior-77,000 years ago at Blombos Cave, a South African site on the Indian Ocean. The previous undisputed date for the earliest evidence of symbolic behavior was 43,000 years ago at Bacho Kiro, Bulgaria. Another article focuses on environmental politics. Environmental problems often cannot be solved without cooperation and collective action. Researchers have emphasized the importance of institutional solutions to environmental problems and suggested that small communities whose members share values are likely to exemplify such cooperation. Researcher Domenico Parisi examined the importance of community attributes and spatial scale to non- institutional initiatives that resulted in community environmental action. |
