Due to the simplicity of design and operation ballistic capsules still remain very promising for returning various cargoes both from the Earth's orbit and, in the future, during the exploration of the Moon. The paper considers issues related to the use of anisotropic heat-shielding materials in order to ensure the descent of a ballistic capsule without destruction of its heat-shielding coating.
