The operating conditions of hollow-cathode tubes were analyzed and the parameters of the pulsed operation mode were determined on the basis of physical principles. The comprehensive assessment of electric and emittance characteristics allows one to optimize the characteristics of hollow-cathode tubes operating in the pulsed mode so as to attain the maximum value of the signal-to-noise ratio.
