Abstrakt: The article discusses relation between the different patterns of primary hyperlipidaemia and the differences in the clinical appearance of the xanthomata. Comparison of the lipid composition of the blood of the 14 patients with the lipid content of their xanthomata showed that the xanthomata contained proportionally more free fatty acids and more free cholesterol than the blood. The eruptive xanthomata showed a lipid pattern differing from that of the tendinous or tuberous xanthomata. Although the fatty acid patterns of the triglycerides and free fatty acids were approximately the same in the blood and xanthomata, the fatty acid pattern of the cholesterol esters differed in blood and xanthomata.
