This article focuses on vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) in the treatment of large skin defects due to necrotizing fasciitis. The article presents a patient with necrotizing fasciitis and a massive wound who was successfully treated by VAC and subsequent skin grafting, resulting in full recovery. A 42-year old man was admitted because of septic shock and multiple organ failure due to necrotizing fasciitis secondary to an ingrown toenail of the right foot. In this patient secondary wound infection became the major problem, and VAC was used as an ultimate treatment after all other strategies had failed. |
