Understanding the Influence of Gender on Emotional Intelligence, Life Satisfaction, and Mental Health of School Teachers.

Abstrakt: Mental Health has been a growing concern in recent years which in turn directly affects one's daily life. Keeping a check on one's own mental health is proven to be advantageous in carrying out activities which requires psychological restrain. The present research attempted to find out the role of gender on emotional intelligence, satisfaction with life and mental health of school teachers. The research also aimed to find out the inter-correlation among the three variables. The sample of this research included 142 school teachers in the age group of 25-40 years employed in different educational institutions in Cuttack, Odisha. Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Mental Health Continuum-Short Form Scale were used to collect data from the subjects. SPSS 21 versions were used to analyse the data. Results revealed a significant gender difference in each of the three variables. Females had better emotional intelligence and life satisfaction than the males. On the other hand, males had higher mental health than females. Inter-correlation among the three variables showed positive significant relationship of emotional intelligence with mental health; and life satisfaction with mental health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
