Abstrakt: In a series of 100 actively drinking chronic alcoholics liver biopsy showed 65 per cent fatty liver, 1 per cent cirrhosis, and 34 per cent normal liver. Fatty infiltration is far the commonest abnormality in the livers of chronic alcoholics and should be diagnosed clinically. In addition to a reversible cheatingly, a transient abnormality in at least two of three tests (SGOT, SGPT, and BSP) indicates the presence of fatty liver with reasonable certainty in recently drinking alcoholics, although the absence of abnormal values will not rule out fatty liver.
