Abstrakt: Dyes wastewater posed a great threat to the environment and human health. In this study, rambutan peel based activated carbon (RPAC) adsorbent was prepared by single stage microwave irradiation technique for Methyl Red (MR) dye removal from aqueous solution. The RPAC posed mesopores surface area of 332.98 m2/g with average pore diameter of 2.26 nm. The adsorption process took shorter time to reach equilibrium at lower MR initial concentration and favoured at acidic condition. Isotherm study divulged that MR-RPAC adsorption system was best described by Langmuir with maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 329.58 mg/g. The pseudo-second order model represents kinetic study with Boyd plot affirmed that film diffusion mechanism was the rate limiting step. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
