Abstrakt: The article discusses issues related to the problem of urinary incontinence in men and considers management options. Management options for men can be grouped into two major categories: containment aids and conduction aids. The aim of management is to restore social continence, prevent secondary problems such as skin excoriation and odour and to make incontinence more tolerable. Difficulties associated with indwelling catheters include infection, leakage, pain, encrustation and blockage and, although suprapubic catheterisation has been associated with less urinary infection in a three-year follow up study of men with acute retention resulting from prostate enlargement, frequent dislodgement was a problem.
