The article focuses on how choreographers Deborah Mitchell, Dianne Walker and Germain Goodson reclaimed tap dance for African American women through their the musical "Black and Blue: Revue Noire." It discusses the work of Mitchell, Walker and Goodson in relation to the legacies of the chorus girl and the class act. It compares critical responses to the musical and analyzes Henry LeTang's choreography focusing on the ensemble works "Everybody Loves My Baby" and "That Rhythm Man" from Act I. |
