Downy mildew caused by the oomycete Plasmopara halstedii (Farl.) Berl. et de Toni is one of the most harmful diseases of sunflower. Among various control methods, the most cost-effective is the development of resistant genotypes. The Plarg locus, which provides resistance to all known P. halstedii races, is currently promising for use in breeding. Microsatellite markers (SSRs) make it possible to control the transfer of resistance-controlling genes in the breeding material. However, validation of the marker is required to prove its reliability in identifying genes. We chose the SSR markers ORS662 and ORS509 to identify the Plarg gene. The research showed that both loci are inherited codominantly. Linkage analysis of the gene to these loci showed recombination frequencies of 0.11 and 0.23, respectively. The ORS662 locus is preferred for use in marker-associated selection (MAS) of sunflower for resistance to downy mildew. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
