In a study by Severino et al. [[6]], there was a tendency for better prognosis among patients with late recurrence, compared to patients with a persistent disease or early recurrence. The salvage surgery persists as the only potentially curative option for anal SCC after the failure of chemoradiotherapy, when properly indicated and performed. Our rate of advanced disease is only comparable to the one described by Pesi et al. [[5]] (70%), in a retrospective study with 20 patients undergoing salvage surgery for anal cancer.
