Abstrakt: |
Most of the vegetable oils have high contents of unsaturated fatty acid and can be converted into epoxy fatty acid by chemical modification of epoxidation, this research was conducted to investigate the effect of different types of vegetable oil on epoxidation by using palm olein, palm kernel oil and sunflower oil at optimum conditions by using peracid mechanism. Epoxidation of vegetable oil was conducted by the addition of formic acid and hydrogen peroxide to form performic acid. Then performic acid with react with the oleic acid from different vegetable oil to form epoxidized vegetable oil. The result shows palm kernel oil was achieved highest oxirane number of 1.6.
