Benzimidazole-Based Carboxyl Functionalized Porphyrin with Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity Towards Metal Free Sonogashira Coupling.

Abstrakt: Here in, we have presented synthesis of heterogeneous metal free carboxyl functionalized benzimidazolium ionic liquid-based porphyrin photocatalyst (MFCFBILPc) for Sonogashira C–C cross coupling reaction. The synthesized MFCFBILPc was confirmed by various characterization techniques like FT-IR, proton NMR, UV–Visible Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and SEM–EDX. MFCFBILPc catalyst displayed potential scope for the reaction of ethynylbenzene and range of aryl halide (–F,–Cl,–Br) and alkyl bromide with good to excellent yield of the product in a home-made photoreactor under irradiation of 5 W LED. This is the first metal/base/solvent-free protocol explored for sp–sp3/sp–sp2 C–C coupling with wide functional group compatibility in good to excellent yields. The recyclability and leaching studies exposed that photocatalyst can be used up to six cycles without leaching of the photocatalyst. The plausible reaction mechanism disclosed the important contribution of donor–acceptor moiety in presence of pi-spacer (extended conjugation) containing dicyno group under home-made photo-reactor equipped with 5 W LED light.
