Abstrakt: Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) is mostly propagated vegetatively because the seeds produced are very low. There is limited information about propagating elephant grass effectively and efficiently by vegetative propagation Vegetative propagation is one important handicap for the fast dissemination of elephant grass. Therefore, the effects of planting elephant grass with different stem cutting positions (i.e., tip, middle, and bottom) and three-node numbers (i.e., two, three, and four) on the number of sprouts and leaves produced were studied. Results of the study revealed that stem cuttings from the bottom and middle position significantly produced a higher number of sprouts and numbers of leaves than tip position while cuttings from the middle position produced the highest number of leaves. There was no effect of the number of nodes on the number of sprouts and leaves. It can be concluded that stem cutting from the bottom and the middle position is the best propagation used for elephant grass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
