Application of In Ova L-glutamine (IO-Gln) technique is an alternative approach to improve production performance of Kampung chicken as meat or egg producer (dual purpose) without alteration on its genetic basis. The research reported herein is to elucidate the effect of IO Gln on the age of the first laid egg by Kampung chicken. The research was arranged as a Randomized Block Design of 5 treatments with 2 periods as Block of Gln level diluted in NaCl isotonic-sterile as solvent: 1. without in ovo (negative control), 2. 0.5 ml NaCl isotonic sterile solution (positive control), 3. 0.5ml 0.5% Gln 4. 0.5 ml 1% Gln and 5. 0.5 ml 1.5% Gln. IO Gln was conducted at the day-7 incubation period. There were 5 pullets aged 18 weeks at research commencement used per treatment per period. Each pullet fitted wing tag used was intensively monitored from age of 20 to 28 weeks, including body weight, daily feed and drinking water intakes, daily laid egg, and weight. Feed and water were provided ad libitum. The results indicated that IO Gln to the hatching egg of Kampung chicken did significantly affect the age of the pullets laid the first egg earlier compared to those of the control. This attainment was seemingly supported by better efficacy of feed utilization and heavier body weight. In a conclusion, the IOF of Gln into the hatching egg of Kampung chicken may stimulate the pullet to lay the first egg at an earlier age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
