The article discusses the dysfunction in the medial prefrontal cortex caused by ethanol and its association with the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin 1β (IL-1β). It explores the regulation of the medial prefrontal cortex by IL-1β in mice exposed to chronic ethanol and highlights the complex interactions between ethanol and the neuroimmune system. The study suggests that targeting the IL-1 system could be a potential treatment for alcohol use disorder (AUD). |
