Innovative proposals for providing navigable depths in the downstream of the Gorodetsky hydraulic unit on the Volga River.

Abstrakt: The results of the analysis of navigation conditions on the Volga River in the downstream of the Gorodetsky hydroelectric complex are presented. Currently, the guaranteed depths of the fairway on the Gorodets — Nizhny Novgorod section are not provided during the navigation period. Proposals are formulated on the possibility of ensuring navigation with in-depth consideration of water transport and engineering-constructive aspects of the issue. It is proposed to use innovative solutions that are currently tested in various areas of construction when solving issues about the renovation of the Volga locks. This is, in particular, the use of floating elements transported to the construction site via a watercourse from a large center, including a concrete and reinforcement farm and a descent structure, during the construction of hydraulic engineering facilities. It is recommended to use non-metallic reinforcement for reinforcing concrete structures. Another innovative solution is the use of geotubes in the construction of water transport structures, the cost of which is significantly lower than in the construction of traditional methods. To improve the level regime in the downstream of the Gorodetsky hydroelectric complex, it is advisable to use a lock with saving pools, with a water saving of 70–75%.
