Abstrakt: Improving the energy efficiency of the traction power supply system (ETPSS) in the context of growth in freight turnover is an urgent task. The article considers the energy efficiency of the existing traction power supply system and the system using voltage regulation devices when passing freight trains of increased mass. For this purpose, the criteria of technical and energy efficiency are defined. A buffer traction power supply system consisting of the main regulated two-unit traction substations and an unregulated single-unit traction substation in the middle of the interstation zone is considered as a strengthening option. A section of the Sverdlovsk railroad was taken to simulate the traction power supply system. Calculations are performed for a package consisting of eight freight trains of 7100 tons each. In the course of the calculations, a new specifying methodology with the application of corrective current coefficients and assessment of the voltage level on the current collector of the electric locomotive was applied.
