Structure and Mechanical Properties of β Titanium Alloy Wire Produced by Combined Rolling and Subsequent Aging.

Abstrakt: The structure and mechanical properties of β titanium alloy wire produced by combined radial-shear and groove rolling with subsequent aging are studied by tensile testing and triple-point bending. It is shown that as a result of this treatment nanosized α/α" phase lamellae precipitate inside the bands of the deformed β phase. The formation of such a structure significantly increases the tensile strength characteristics of the wire with a simultaneous decrease in its ductility. The optimal mechanical characteristics of the wire in three-point bending tests are achieved after aging at a temperature of 500°C for 5 hours. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
