Abstrakt: Sexual policing emerged out of the antiprostitution campaigns of the early twentieth century, yet Fischer pushes beyond the typical periodization of studies of commercial sex by considering police departments' sexual policing over the entire twentieth century. Having set the stage - vice in African American neighborhoods - and having established her actors - police with broad authority due to anti-vice laws - Fischer launches into her narrative.
