Canker sores and dental caries, which are caused by the Streptococcus mutant bacteria and the Candida albicans fungi, are the type of diseases that often occurs in the mouth and teeth. In order to overcome this problem, a study was conducted to prepare a mouthwash in which contain raru bark extract (Cotilelobium melanoxylon). The extraction process was carried out by maceration method with methanol as a solvent. According to phytochemical screening results, the extract obtained contains secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids and saponins. The extract, then added into the mouthwash mixture with various concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30% w/v. Antibacterial and antifungal activity tests were performed on the three samples with various concentrations. Based on the result, sample with the largest inhibition zone was discovered in the sample with a 30% concentration of extract, in where, the sample with that concentration was observed to have an inhibition zone diameter of 12.7 mm against mutant Streptococcus bacteria and 11.4 mm against the fungus Candida albicans, indicating it has strong antimicrobial activity.
