Additive manufacturing(AM) (or) 3d printing is used to develop the three dimensional model form the cad model. The model is developed by adding the material in layer by layer. The most important advantages of AM are to print the complex geometry with high quality without any tooling. The most commonly used filament materials are poly lactic acid, anti-bacterial poly lactic acid, poly ethylene terephthalate, poly ethylene terephthalate glycol, acryl butadiene styrene and poly propylene. The mechanical properties, quality and dimensional accuracy are most important for any manufacturing process and that are decided by the printing parameters of the additive manufacturing process. The printing parameters are infill density, layer thickness, in-fill pattern, print speed, build orientation, raster angle, raster width, number of contours, air gap and extrusion temperature. The design of experiments is adopted to find the amalgamation of printing constraints and the different optimization process employed to optimize the process parameters to maximize the mechanical properties, quality and dimensional error and minimize the surface roughness and material. The temperature of extrusion, infill density, layer thickness, printing speed, part orientation and in-fill pattern are the most significant parameters on the on mechanical properties, dimensional accuracy and surface roughness.
