Ovarian cancer is a heterogeneous disease assigned to three categories : surface epithelial cells, sex cord – stromal and germ cells tumors. Each category of ovarian cancer in turn has different types of cancer, this study was conducted to detect bFGF relevant to ovarian cancer, according to immunohistochemistry assay, all studied ovarian cancer cases were positive for bFGF expression, however each cancer type exhibited different staining intensity for instance, out of 36 cases of ovarian cancer, 18(5o%) cases displayed sever expression(+++), 14 (38.8%) cases displayed moderate expression (++) and 4cases only (11.11% gave weak staining intensity. In contrast to these results, out of 4 cases of ovarian cysts, 2 cases(50%) exhibited weak expression. Taking to gather these results suggest that positive expression for bFGF with sever staining intensity is more predominant among malignant ovarian cancer cases than ovarian cysts cases, therefore bFGF may be a suitable biomarker to detect ovarian cancer.
