The concept of "ecology" is blurred in today's world; it can refer to both basic science and anything related to nature conservation. Mixing different meanings within one term provides an opportunity for companies to lure customers with loud headlines about benefits of a product, while it does no favours at all to the planet's ecology. This subject is much relevant today, since the development of the "green agenda" certainly increases public loyalty to the company. But is the path from a conventional product to an eco-friendly one so unspotted and transparent? The purpose of the present research is to analyse the philosophical and socio-cultural content of the notion of "ecology" in the light of current trends of the "green agenda" development. The study applies the method of proceeding from the abstract to the concrete, as well as the interdisciplinary approach to the study of various aspects of the phenomenon of ecology, which required a search for publications in philosophy, linguistics, economics and other sciences that address the issues of ecological outlook of the modern society. Summarising the conclusions of this study, it should be noted that the concept of "ecology" has become quite entrenched in the life of the world community due to the numerous large-scale problems, such as ocean pollution, global warming, soil erosion, extinction of some animal and plant species, etc. People representing different spheres encompassed by the in-depth term "ecology" should develop some common language that would allow them to understand each other without mixing different activities that in fact complicate the concept of ecology for uninformed people and turn them off this sphere.
