Isoxsuprine (Vasodilan) is an effective and safe drug, at the recommended dosages, for symptomatic treatment of patients suffering from any of several disorders of peripheral or intracraneal circulation. This statement is supported by published reports and by our own experience. In addition isoxsuprine is a uterine relaxant of promise. These and other uses of isoxsuprine are under investigation. Isoxsuprine may be found to be of value also in conjunction with physical therapy in paralytic and spastic conditions, such as hemiplegia and multiple sclerosis. A principal advantage of isoxsuprine, we believe, is its relative freedom from side effects in average oral doses. Outpatient and office management is feasible, unless the disease has already progressed to major disability of a degree requiring hospital or other institutional care. Clinical management with the use of isoxsuprine is relatively trouble-free. There are no known contraindications to the use of isoxsuprine in the recommended dosages. It should be used with care, however, in the presence of pronounced hypotension or tachycardia, or in acute severe myocardial insufficiency.
