This paper describes the application of an AGA model for the design of sewer networks. Addressing the problem of finding the optimal design for a sewer network with a pumping station lies in achieving applicable design in a way that increases the speed of identifying the least costly adequate solution. The AGA model is an adaptation of a genetic algorithm that utilises different selection and crossover methods to increase the efficiency of the genetic algorithm in terms of reducing the search space. In order to check the efficiency of the model with regard to the design of sewer networks, the model was tested in a case study located in Kerbala. The program was run repeatedly, using TOS and one point crossover methods, and a minimum design cost was obtained with the pump station at node 604. The cost of the former manual designs was then compared with that of the designs obtained from this process, with the saving percentage thus determined to be 9.1%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
