Abstrakt: Diagnostic ultrasound is a common practice in medicine, being a cheap and reliable source of information in a wide range of medical situations. The technology is designed and calibrated for a specific structure of media under investigation, which corresponds to soft tissues of a human body. In the presence of homogeneous areas—hard inclusions of various shapes (e.g., bones, implants), gas or fluid bubbles—certain types of artifacts can be observed. This research uses the grid-characteristic numerical method to model elastic waves in heterogeneous media and offers an interpretation of some types of artifacts that can be observed on a B-scan.
