Abstrakt: This article explores the phenomenon of the researcher’s displacement in the academic field, situated within the context of social circulation of knowledge, both within the institutionalized world of science and between the academic, cultural, and artistic institutions engaged in popularizing scientific knowledge at various levels: expert, review, curatorial, research, and artistic. The case study will focus on academic displacement between philological and cultural studies, as well as between text-centric literary studies and the extra-textual (or contextual) orientation of sound studies, viewed as a form of searching for what is non-logocentric but endowed with meaning and sense-making potential – such as sound, medium, or technology – even as a point of resistance against discourses of domination or the domination of discourse. To describe this process and its experience, the author employs tools of critical autoethnography and anthropological categories of “being-out-of-place” and “deep play” as operational concepts defining the circulation of academic knowledge.
