Abstrakt: The friction stir welding (FSW) process has been proven an efficient and effective welding technique to join hard-to-weld materials such as aluminium matrix composites (AMCs). However, the presence of reinforcement particles in the AMCs limits the range of process parameters that produce defect less joints. The present work focussed on friction stir welding of AA6061- TiO2 composite at different operational parameters to analyse the effect of variables on joint quality. FSW tool and the operational parameters such as rotational speed and tool traverse speed has a vital role in controlling the grain size and joint strength. It is crucial to optimize the operational parameters to get superior joint properties. In this study, a Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) technique is used to optimize the FSW operational parameters. The study indicates that the solution provided by the TOPSIS assists in achieving superior joint properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
