Abstrakt: In recent periods, Aluminum mirrors have been gaining popularity among researchers. It has wide range of properties, including low cost, low density/high strength ratio, corrosion resistant nature, high machinability, high thermal conductivity, etc. It even replaces glass mirrors for numerous applications. It can have endless applications such as a mirror, starting from aerospace, medical, defence, and even household and consumer goods. The polishing of the mirrors is a concern over the period. This study suggests cost-effective method of nano-polishing of aluminum using conventional and readily available tools. This study took two identical jobs 140 mm diameter each CNC turned commercial grade aluminum surface for sanding operation. Finally, polishing was done by soft polishing pads with different abrasive compounds and slurry. Experiments were done separately on them, and their process parameters and results (in terms of flatness and surface roughness) were compared. On both the operations, the results were satisfactory. However, operation on the 2nd job showed a slightly lower Ra value of 12nm.indicating better surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
