Abstrakt: India is a developing country, with infrastructure growth rate of 7%. Since rising congestion of spaces due to high population density, concrete used needs to be less labour intensive, highly flowable, and economical without losing its strength. Therefore, use of self-compacting concrete in upcoming projects is only going to increase. Hence it becomes necessary to learn more about the self-compacting concrete and maximize the output by optimizing the proportion of its components. Self-compacting concrete is achieved by incorporating increased proportion of cement. Since the production of cement is not sustainable practice and exudes a heavy toll on environment by emitting large magnitude of carbon dioxide, it becomes necessary to find alternatives for cement. Fly ash and metakaolin are two such materials which can be utilized as substitute for cement without inducing any additional impact on environment. This review studies fly ash and metakaolin as partial replacement as cementitious materials in self-compacting concrete and their effect on itsvarious performance parameters. Authors have investigated impact of fly ash and metakaolin on various parameters of SCC. The review also focuses on various mix design methods used for proportioning of SCC. A further objective is to find gaps visible within the sustainable design of SCC proportioning with partial replacement by metakaolin and fly ash. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
