City of lakes, Hyderabad gets flooded so frequently even after a short spell of brief rainfall. Owing to the large urbanization the growth of city has been expanding haphazardly to the fringe areas thus creating inundation of water bodies and causing damage to the property and infrastructure facilities. If lakes have been rendered incapable of handling even small rains, the city will continue to witness large-scale of overflowing. In addition to this, one of the reasons for the wide spread inundation is that the tanks which, were supposed to catch only rainwater are fled with a significant amount of sewage and debris. Due to this phenomenon, during the monsoons. when the catchment area of a lake accumulates the storm water as the capacity of a lake has been diminished it overflows, thus flooding the areas in its vicinity. In the present study, a group of researchers identifying the damage have attempted to find a way to mitigate the disaster by using its natural terrain. In addition to that it is very important to study the lakes and its integration with the drainage water system which can address the water requirements within the city in future and also prevent flooding. Hence, there are two-prong approach - one of it isto plug sewage inlets to the lakes and clear the drains and ensure they are continuous, and on the other hand dredging of lakes needs to be taken up once in two years to prevent flooding.
