Simulation and comparison of dipole and microstrip antenna to optimize gain.

Abstrakt: Dipole and microstrip antennas with FR4 substrate were designed at frequency range of (4.2-7.2) GHz to optimize return loss and gain. Gain and return loss of dipole antenna (n=16) was compared with microstrip antenna with FR4 substrate (n=16) in frequency range of (4.2-7.2) GHz using the HFSS tool. Dipole antenna has significantly higher gain (2.5417 dB) and less return loss (-23.9321 dB) (p<0.05) than microstrip antenna gain (1.7617 dB) and return loss of (-12.1234 dB). The optimal frequency for maximum gain was at 5.8 GHz and less return loss was at 6.2 GHz for dipole antenna and for microstrip antenna maximum gain was at 7 GHz and less return loss at 5.2 GHz. At 5.8 GHz, dipole antennas offer superior gain enhancement and lower return loss than other antenna types studied thus far. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
