This paper presents the comparative study of UV disinfection and chlorination for reducing the coliform density to increase the purity level of wastewater and to support wastewater management. UV disinfection and chlorination methods are simulated by varying the dosage of UV light or chlorine, to reduce the coliform density. In the first set of UV disinfection, the dosage applied is 16.25 (mW-s/cm2) and the coliform density in the effluent is 21.87 (MPN/100ml). In the second set of chlorination, the dosage is 0.7558 (mg/l) and the coliform density in the effluent is 98.5 (MPN/100ml). From the obtained results, UV disinfection method removes coliforms with better efficiency than chlorination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
