The clinical and diagnostic features, surgical treatment and late follow-up of six additional patients with a subclavian steal syndrome are presented. The results of surgical therapy as reported in the literature are summarized. Improvement after occlusion of the brachial artery on the affected side may be a valuable diagnostic and prognostic maneuver in patients with an acute cerebral ischemic attack. Operative technique and exposure are described. The necessity of angiography in assessing the results of endarterectomy is demonstrated and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
