The effects of Dilatol have been observed in normal adults. When injected intramuscularly in doses of 5 mg and when given by mouth in doses of 10 mg it produces a fall in blood pressure with little effect on the pulse rate. The effect on blood pressure is largely to lower the diastolic pressure with little change in the systolic pressure, so that there is an increase in pulse pressure. No evidence was obtained from these experiments that the main effect of Dilatol is on the muscle vessels, rather than on the skin vessels, in contrast to the observations made on the dog (5). It is concluded that Dilatol is a safe vasodilator substance, which acts rapidly and regularly when administered orally. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
