A key parameter of 5G communication is MIMO technology in the forthcoming years. In order to maintain best MIMO system the correlation between the antennas is < 0.2. The distance between the patches is 2.5 mm is considered by parametric study that reduces the transmission coefficient (S12) is − 45 dB and − 33.5 dB at lower and higher bands. The impedance bandwidths at measured frequencies are 830 MHz and 2.37 GHz, radiation efficiencies of 88.9% and 84.91%, realized gains of 3.10 dBi and 3.58 dBi. The antenna occupies the total area is 0.45λ0 × 0.291λ0 × 0.03λ0 with reflection coefficient (S11) is − 41.25 dB and − 14.58 dB. The group delay (GD) of − 18.009 ± 1ns observed from the simulation results with S11 of − 41.27 dB is obtained by IBW of 790 MHz. At the both resonating bands ECC is slightly lower than the 0.04. The dual-band antenna has a good radiation pattern, advisable VSWR, gain characteristics and radiation efficiency which are acceptable for limited wireless communication applications.
