Abstrakt: Electron-beam welding may be introduced in various industries, such as instrument production, the auto and aerospace industries, and shipbuilding, for the production of metal and alloy components where weld quality is critical. It offers the potential for automation and for vacuum welding, so as to ensure high purity of the material. In addition, the welding energy is concentrated within an electron beam, which permits the production of deep and narrow weld seams, with very localized heating. The distribution of the electron beam's energy density is critical to its interaction with the workpiece; it directly affects numerous secondary physical effects and hence the weld quality. A device based on computer tomography is proposed for the diagnostics of electron-beam guns and also the elimination of errors due to approximation of the beam in modeling and setting up the welding process. By means of the proposed device, the actual spatial and energy characteristics of the electron beam may be determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
