Garcinia cowa Roxb., commonly known as asam kandis, is a medicinal plant that is rich in secondary metabolites with various pharmacological activities. The rind of G.cowa fruit has an antioxidant activity that can be used further for anti-aging skin treatments. However, the bioactive compounds of asam kandis that potentially acts as an anti-aging property have not been studied. This study aims to analyze flavonoid, vitamin C, and HCA (Hydroxy Citrate Acid) of G. cowa fruit peel extract. These compounds are active ingredients often used in anti-aging cosmeceuticals that act as antioxidants, whitening agents, and anti-wrinkle agents. This research is experimental research with a quantitative descriptive method. Preparation of G. cowa fruit peel was conducted by maceration with 96% ethanol. The total flavonoid content of G. cowa fruit peel extract was determined by UV-VIS spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 429 nm. Vitamin C levels were calculated using the HPLC method and HCA levels were calculated by using the acid-base titration method. The results showed that the total flavonoid content was 138 mg QE/100g extract, the vitamin C content was 132 mg/100 g extract, and the total acid HCA content was 4.26%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
