Development and mechanical evaluation of alpha brass (Cu-Zn alloy) for industrial applications.

Abstrakt: Alpha Brass (Cu-Zn Alloy) is suitable for many industrial applications due to its excellent mechanical properties such as high hardness, strength, ductility, and excellent corrosion resistance. This study considers the development and mechanical evaluation of the alpha brass (Cu-Zn Alloy) for industrial applications. The Cu-Zn alloy was produced from scraps of copper wire and zinc battery casing by sand casting at a temperature of 400oC. The composition of the constituent materials was Cu-15% zinc while the mechanical properties evaluated were the hardness and ultimate tensile strength. The composition of the alloy prepared has a total percent weight of 1.5 kg. The results obtained indicated that the produced brass has good ultimate tensile strength which makes it a good candidate for industrial applications. The findings of this study may be useful for the development of Cu-Zn alloy with excellent mechanical properties for industrial applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
