This contribution presents the evaluation of the performance of a custom-designed plastic optical fiber bundle (POFDS) for high precision metrology for Tip Clearance (TC) and Tip Timing (TT) measurements in turbomachinery. The bundle has been designed with a software tool that implements the mathematical model of optical fiber-based displacement sensors (OFDSs). Its performance was evaluated in a test bench without combustion, where a scaled aircraft rotor stage was installed. Results indicate that measurements are in good agreement with those provided by the software tool. Thus, POFDSs are an interesting and cost-effective alternative to glass fiber bundles for TC and TT measurements in test rigs where there is no combustion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
