The central tenet of the framework, that grammar is inherently symbolic, renders learning grammar more meaningful in comparison to regarding it as mere system of rules for clause construction. In their attempts to scale up the cognitive grammar framework to the level of text and discourse, they have contributed to making cognitive grammar more responsive to language in use beyond a couple of sentences, and I would say this is stylistics' main contribution to the framework. I would say that the cognitive grammar model is more of a complement than a replacement to the system of transitivity, because the latter offers categories for the analysis of clauses that cognitive grammar seems to lack.
