In this attempt at classification, then, Flügel queers his own reading of clothing to illustrate how what we expect from dress is based on sociological expectations that psychology can in part unravel. The Analyst's New Clothes: Reading J.C. Flügel into Fashioning Masculinities. Flügel objects to this, arguing that from the perspective of clothes psychology, the difference between the dandy and those men not excessively attuned to matters of dress is quantitative not qualitative ([5], p. 101).
