In order to inspect the effect of decorating rhodium (Rh) on the sensing capability of a gallium nitride nanotube (GaN-NT) in detecting adrucil (AD), the density functional B3LYP was employed. The interaction between the pure GaN-NT and AD was weak and the sensing response (SR) was around 4.0. Decorating Rh into the surface of the GaN-NT increased the adsorption energy of AD from −6.6 to −24.0 kcal/mol. Also, an appreciable increase was observed in the corresponding SR to 71.5. Moreover, the recovery time when AD was desorbed from the surface of the Rh-decorated GaN-NT (Rh@GaN-NT) was short (30.8 s). The results demonstrated that the Rh@GaN-NT can selectively detect AD.
