The article focuses on the abundance of insertion sequences (ISs) in the genome of Wolbachia bacteria, which are obligate endosymbionts widely present in arthropods and nematodes, and their potential association with horizontal gene transfer. Topics include Wolbachia bacteria are obligate endosymbionts that contain abundant transposable elements (TEs), having streamlined genomes; and the association between ISs and horizontal gene transfer from endosymbionts to eukaryotes. |
