Abstrakt: The 1980s represent a particular moment for the establishment of women's art practices. The previous decade, if on the one hand suggested a continuation and advancement of the creative explosion of the 1970s, on the other, showed that the general art system changed by repositioning social and artistic revisionist principle. In 1984, in the provincial town of Ferrara, a Biennial entirely dedicated to women artists, Biennale Donna, was founded and is still ongoing, In the following essay will be discuss the convergence between the critical and exhibition activity of the 1970s along with the need to explore new content and exhibition models, the relationship between public institutions and a political matrix, the UDI (Unione Donne in Italia), an autonomous and militant association active in the political, social and cultural level from the II Post War and the dislocation of the Biennale, compared to the Italian art system.
