Art critic Danguolė Ruškienė writes about the exhibitions West Winds '22: Birthday and Klaipėda Art Museum, which were held in the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Center for Cultural Communications (curator Neringa Poškutė-Jukumienė, exhibition architect Vladas Balsys) to celebrate the 770th anniversary of the founding of the city. Organized by the Klaipėda branch of the Lithuanian Artists' Association. Twenty-five Klaipėda region artists presented their works in the first exhibition West Winds '22: Birthday: Algirdas Bosas, Antanas Garjonas, Augustė Santockytė, Aurimas Anusas, Aušra Mačiulaitienė, Daiva Dašenkovienė, Dalia Skridailaitė, Danas Andriulionis, Ernestas Žvaigždinas, Daiva Lozytė, Jolanta Vitkutė, Žydrūnė Kriūkaitė Juciuvienė, Danius Drulys, Juozas Vosylius, Laima Gedvilaitė-Sakalauskienė, Neringa Poškutė-Jukumienė, Petras Baronas, Saulė Želnytė, Toma Šlimaitė-Bubelienė, Simas Žaltauskas, Virginijus Viningas, Zita Inčirauskienė, Romualdas Inčirauskas, Isroildžon Baroti, and Henrikas Šurkus. The works created over the last few years are attempts to connect with Klaipėda in one form or another and to visualize one's position on the theme of the city's anniversary. The second exhibition Klaipėda Art Museum consists of several layers. It features archival works by the celebrities of the port city, who are also celebrating their personal anniversaries this year: Edvardas Malinauskas, Felicia Kačenauskaitė-Pinkevičienė, Vytautas Antanas Jakštys, Gražina Oškinytė-Eimanavičienė, Kęstutis Balčikonis, Arūnas Sakalauskas, and Saulius Bertulis. A significant part of the exhibition was a collection of works by Lithuanian painter Augustinas Savickas (1919-2012). And a kind of a cherry on top of the cake was Installation without a Roof created by students and alumni of the Telšiai Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts (coordinator: Emilija Globytė, authors: Simona Agota Martinkus, Lukas Tomkus, Adomas Petrauskas, Aleksas Grašys, Ignė Zdanevičiūtė, and Indrė Armanavičiūtė). It features an improvised creative studio made of objects belonging to artists from Klaipėda. Art critic D. Ruškienė writes that Klaipėda's anniversary is an important event for the artists of this region. For some, it is an opportunity to search for a personal relationship with this city, review its current situation, and shed some light on long-standing issues. And only a few of them stick to their usual creative expression, dedicating pompous works to the city, or works directly related to its images. These exhibitions are a tribute not only to the city, but also to the artists of Klaipėda, who add value to the city on a daily basis, but still lack the attention of the local government.
